About

I am a Colombian academic in law and philosophy. Currently, I am a Provost's Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto – Faculty of Law, Dean Jutta Brunnée is my Supervisor.  

I studied law at the Universidad de Cartagena. After my graduation in 2008, I practiced torts, constitutional and administrative law for two years and was a legal advisor for some public institutions. 

My graduate studies were at McMaster University, Department of Philosophy. Wil Waluchow supervised my MA Thesis on weak natural law. Stefan Sciaraffa (Supervisor), Michael Giudice, and  Violetta Igneski were the Committee for my Ph.D. Dissertation, where I made my first attempt at creating a theory of non-state legal phenomenaThese studies were funded by the Francisco José de Caldas Scholarship from the Colombian Government. 

During my time at McMaster, I also worked as sessional instruction in Philosophy and the Department of Global Peace and Social JusticeI also worked in the Global Water FuturesResearch Project Co-Creation of Indigenous Water Quality Tools lead by Dawn Martin Hill. With Nancy Doubledaand Nidhi Nagabhatla, I conducted research in the Six Nations of the Grand River (Ontario) and the Lubicon (Alberta) as part of the Governance and Human Rights Team. 

Additionally, I am one of the founders of the Sociedad Paradigmas Emergentes de Filosofía del Derecho - along with Enrique Cáceres Nieto, UNAMVerónica Rodríguez-Blanco, University of Surrey, UK; Juan Vega Gómez, UNAM; Burkhard Schafer, University of Edinburgh; Sandra Gómora, UNAM; Ímer Flores, UNAM; Thomas Bustamante, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil; Andrés Botero Bernal, UIS, Colombia; Noel Struchiner, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Event’s organized by the society include the IX (2020), VIII (2019), VII (2018), VI (2017) and V (2016) Congresses on Legal Philosophy in Mexico City.

I am also a member of the Canadian (and since 2021, the treasurer) and Colombian Sections of the International Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosoph(IVR). I am also affiliated with the McMaster's Center for Human Rights and Restorative Justice and the Research Project ‘Confronting Atrocity Through Truth Commissions,’ directed by Bonny Ibhawoh. Other professional associations I belong to include the Colombian Institute of Tort Law, the International Network of Jurists for American Integrationand the International Network on Transnational Legal and Political Theory (I organized the Network's 4th Meeting in 2017). 

In my free time, I play soccer and chess. I also try to play the guitar, but my brother plays better than I do.
